irons, MI
Some of you may recognize these animals, and if you don’t, that’s okay. These are actually my parents’ pets — and my mom has been asking me for years to take photos of them, so I was finally able to make it happen.
The horse was actually mine. I showed her for years in 4H and all over Michigan. She’s now in her 20s and happily retired alongside her mini donkeys. All she has to do these days is eat, nap, and bring joy to everyone who visits.
The donkeys were something my late grandfather absolutely loved. I originally had two horses at one point, but after my horse Granite passed away unexpectedly, we made the decision to get two mini donkeys so Scout wouldn’t be alone — and that’s how Sullivan and Kazoo came into our lives.
My parents have had them since they were just 6 months old, and now they’re 10 years old. It’s crazy how fast time flies, and even more special to be able to capture them like this now.
Mickey was also mine, technically — it just looks like my parents slowly ended up with all my animals, lol. But in reality, Mickey has extreme anxiety, hates change (and especially wood floors), and honestly thrives better staying right where he is. Plus, my parents absolutely adore him, so he never left.
Lastly is Lincoln, my parents’ third German Shorthaired Pointer. She is truly the weirdest little soul I have ever met — full of personality, a total goofball, and just an all-around oddball in the best way possible.
